The Basics:

My New Weigh is a medically supervised weight management program which utilizes unique meal replacements and focuses on behavioral and nutrition education as well as emphasizes physical activity.

What is Medical Oversight?

Our medical director, Marc Cornier, MD, reviews week 1 and 15 labs of each participant of the program. Dr. Cornier is also available to see any clients who have medical issues during the program. All participants must be screened either by Dr. Cornier (additional fee) or by their own physician prior to starting the program. Most of the time, clients will not need to see an MD again during the program, however a return visit(s) is sometimes required for high-risk clients.

Will my insurance cover the cost of this program?

Although the CU Anschutz Health and Wellness Center does not submit claims to insurance, we do accept health savings (HSA) and flex spending (FSA) accounts.

How do I sign up?

I heard that in the My New Weigh program you just drink shakes. Is that true?

My New Weigh does use a structured meal plan that is supervised by a registered dietitian. A meal replacement product called Health One is used. The Health One product is a powder that can be made into many amazing recipes, including muffins, pizzas, soups, etc. You will receive a recipe book at your first class.

I have some food allergies. What is the meal replacement product made of?

This product is primarily made of soy and whey (for protein). Because of the whey, there is a minuscule amount of lactose (~1g per packet), but unless you are extremely lactose intolerant you shouldn't have symptoms. Lactaid can be used in addition to the product if needed. The products are not “certified” gluten free, however, there have been participants with celiac disease who’ve used Health One with no issue before. None of the ingredients in Health One contain gluten naturally, but it may be processed on the same equipment as wheat. Health One is free of all artificial sweeteners.

How do I handle this program over the holidays and special occasions?

Although we do expect the meal plan to be followed majority of the time, we do make exceptions for holidays/special occasions. These occasions should be discussed with your coach prior to participating in them. Your coach will help you to design a meal “off plan” which allows you to enjoy food with your friends/family while preventing adverse side effects such as weight gain.

I have several exercise restrictions.  Will this be an issue?

Not at all. My New Weigh recognizes that participants are at very different levels and abilities when it comes to exercise.  We will work with you to customize exercise for your ability/level of activity.

What are examples of some of the topics covered?

The primary focus of My New Weigh is behavior change. We cover topics including stress management, environment change, self-talk, goal setting, healthy boundaries, creating healthy habits, breaking unhealthy habits, addressing binge eating, and personal accountability. We also cover nutrition and physical activity topics such as calculating exercise calories, calorie counting and journaling, ways to increase physical activity, portion control, understanding proteins, carbohydrates and fats, meal planning, handling plateaus, and weight loss and weight maintenance strategies.
